The simplest and fastest method to wear a veshti is explained here. You can wear a veshti in just a few seconds if you follow this method. I have included a secret formula for the non-Tamilians to follow.

These days the ottiko kattiko type of veshtis have become popular. They come with a pocket. but the thick velcro makes it difficult for everyone while sitting and eating in marriage functions. Vayiraara saapda mudiyaadhunga.  The best veshtis are the traditional veshtis.

1000. How did I become a performance artist

After many years of loitering around in the blogging space, I have finally reached my 1000th post in this blog. There was a time I blogged every day. Now my interests have become so diverse that I don't even do one thing properly.

The first thing I did before writing this 1000th post is change the template for this page. I am still old school. Hence preserved the right column layout with archives. I think I can take the liberty to do some self dabba in this post.

I blogged very less this year. But this post should do the perfect balancing act. When I started this blog in the early 2000s, little did I know that I' be surviving in the blogging scene for close to two decades.  From geocities to livejournal and finally to blogger, the journey has been pretty straight forward. The only purpose I had was to put a smile on people's faces and that's how this page was born. Some posts would have done the trick. Some posts would be soora mokkai ones.

I never dreamt that i would become a performance artist. Back during college days, I have been in the college band and in the dance team. But never did I think that I would start donning this hat on a regular basis and that too after a long gap. It all started in the summer of 2019 when I wrote a song called Uppuma. To my surprise, it became viral on whatsapp. It was a simple video that was taken in a phone. But the manner in which it started doing rounds, I started getting ideas of becoming a performing artist.

Soon I got invites to perform in places just because of that one song. To do justice to my humour song writing skills, I went on to write some more humour songs and started performing them in my live shows. The same Uppuma song soon became a regular at my shows. This video is from one such live show. The manner in which the live audience encouraged me, egged me to write more songs.

The song "Renu oh Renu" is a crowd favorite and little did I know that a character that I created for my blog would eventually turn into a song that loved. The weird nice thing about this song is that I would pull a random stranger from the audience and make them sit next to me and I'd be singing the song for them. Neither me nor them would have an idea on how the song would turn out to be. So far it has left smiles on people's faces.

Pray for Nesamani was yet another song that kinda capitalised on a meme that became popular in 2019. In just a few months, I formed a duo band with Anusha and we were doing gigs regularly. We called ourselves Rendu Peru. We soon ventured into writing our own songs. The only difference here is that the songs were not the usual humour based songs. The philosophical angle was explored for our performances.

And there is this quartet called Fisher Four where we sing four part harmony. This is a tight quartet and we love what we do. If you like four part gospel harmony, look no further. just subscribe to this channel [link]

And my primary YouTube channel "Chronicwriter" just reached 5000 subscribers. You can subscribe to the channel and share your love too. Search for "Chronicwriter" on YouTube. Some of the videos I shared in this blog are from this channel.

So, in the recent past, I unwind mainly through song writing, humour performances, gigs, four part harmony and many YouTube uploads. My insta page is kinda active too. At 38, I have been learning a lot on Insta promotions from teenagers.

The reason I am posting about this is just to tell you that it is never too late to start something that you are passionate about. If we work towards it and if we work hard, we can crack it. It is as simple as that. I never thought that I would eventually end up as a performance artist.

My daughter Anya has grown big and my son Adam has turned one. Life revolves around them. My lovely wife Joan takes a lot of burden on her shoulders and that gives me lot of time to explore my creative side. I asked a few of my blogging friends on what to write for this blog post. Almost all of them asked me to write on how to write consistently.  The plain answer to this is "Just start typing". If you are for ever in the thinking mode, you wouldn't be able to execute things. Get out of that couch, start putting things into action. That is the only way to stay fit, stay active and stay happy. There is no substitute for hardwork.

999. How Rose saved Jack's life.

If you have seen the movie Titanic, you would have seen how a rich girl Rose drowned and killed a poor boy Jack by not giving him space on a plank. I don't like sad endings like that. So I decided to save Jack through my version of Titanic. For a change ducks became actors for my movie. The storyboard for the movie is ready and here are some clicks from the movie.

By advising Jack to mind his own business, Rose finally saves Jack's life. Additionally she made it sure that he becomes popular too by appearing in the same photograph along with the actor in the picture.

998. Doordarshan and Tom Sawyer

Second Saturday nights of a month were movie nights at our house when I was a kid. Back then in Doordarshan, an English movie would be played at 10 pm. My sister and I would wait for second Saturdays to watch the English movies. In Hindu news paper, the fourth page would have details about programs that would be screened that week. We would always check the name of the movies that were about to be screened that week. My dad would enquire among his friends and his cousins whether the movies can be watched along with the family. Back then they were the ones who would give him an idea about parental guidance in those movies.

I remember watching “Enter the dragon” on one of those Saturday nights and when BruceLee’s friend gets a back massage, dad got up and switched off the TV and asked us to go to sleep. I did not the see the famous mirror fight scene at the end. I was 8 years old then. Once we also watched the 1953 Titanic movie. We could not watch the movie fully too because it involved a lot of kissing scenes. Do you get reminded of the priest from the movie Cinema Paradiso? My dad was definitely his replica.

What made me write this blog post is the movie Tom Sawyer. The movie which was released in 1938 is a cult classic. I watched the movie in the year 1990 as an 8 year old kid. Lights were switched off in the drawing room. Two grass mats were spread in the drawing room. Pillows were scattered and a couple of bedsheets joined.

My mom would make rasna juice and we would gorge on kadala muttai and tapioca chips. Dad and mom would be sitting on the sofa and we would all be watching the movie. Sometimes I would sleep halfway through the movie itself. My dad would call out my name and ask me if I was still awake. I would immediately say “Yes, I am watching the movie”. If he finds me sleeping, he would switch off the TV and it would be bedtime for us.

Last Saturday, when I was browsing through YouTube for videos, I chanced upon the movie Tom Sawyer. I decided to introduce Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn to my eight year old daughter. So we switched off the lights, surrounded us with pillows and watched the movie on my laptop. I was literally screaming when I saw Tom Sawyer, Aunt Polly, Becky and little Jim.

I became an 8 year old again. Reminded me of the Lalitha jewellery ad where a mother becomes a daughter and the daughter becomes her mother. My daughter loved the movie. I am planning to introduce her to “Oshin”, a series that was dear to me when I was as a child.

997. Is lockdown the new normal?

Things are not the same anymore. I have worked from home many a days in my work life. But the WFH that happens these days during the lockdown is entirely different. All of us are staying indoors.

The board games that were popular when I was little are resurfacing in my life. Chess, Chinese Checkers, ludo, snakes and ladders, deck of cards, aadu puli aatam are some games that have come back into our life.

Doordarshan is literally taking us back to the 80s and 90s by telecasting serials that were once popular.

This picture that you see here is the classic WFH setup for me. We all work from the same room. My daughter will be busying painting or reading something. The little man who is sleeping here leaves the room in peace as long as he sleeps. Once he wakes up, everything goes for a toss. I have to literally run away and find a secluded place in the house so that I can handle the conference calls in peace.

But again, I am not alone, This is the same case with many households. So during our conference calls, we also get a glimpse of how my colleagues behave with their better halves, children and with their parents. Corona has opened our eyes to tiny things. Things that we overlooked in the past are now becoming important for us.

I seriously have no clue on how long this lockdown will continue, nor do I have any idea on how long it will take till normalcy returns. Or this whole new lifestyle might be the new normal and we might have to be ready to live with it too.

996. How to have the perfect beard look

If you are a Dhaadi vecha KD who like to experiment with the beard, the Abraham Lincoln Dhaadi is the right getup for you. It just takes 10 minutes to get an Abraham Lincoln face.

You would need

1) A face with a beard. If you don't have beard, try Ervamatin on your cheeks for one whole month. When I say cheeks, I mean the cheeks on your face.

2) Shaving foam / Shaving cream ;  Shaving brush / Tooth Brush / Toilet brush - depending on the type of dhaadi you have

3) A shaving blade ( Can be a single blade/ twin blade/ triple blade/ four blade too.

4) Harpic ( I will tell the usage later)

5) After shave lotion

Steps

1) Wash your face with water. Apply shaving foam on your face.

2) Mallaakka paduthufy on the floor and vittatha paarthufy by placing both legs on the door. Make sure that the door is latched properly.

3) After 5 minutes, get up and go and stand in front of the mirror. You have to face the mirror and when you look at the mirror you should be able to see your face.

4) Now take the shaving blade in your left hand and put kolam on your face. Even if you are a right hander, you should only use the left hand. That is the trick of this special dhaadi.

5) Now smile a little. To differentiate yourself from Abraham Lincoln, you should show your teeth.

6) If you have not brushed your teeth, your pallu will be in manjal colour. This is where you should gargle  with harpic. If you don't have Harpic in your house, you can call Abbas. He has a big stock of Harpic bottles in his house.

7) Apply After shave lotion on your chest.

You can also morachu paarthufy and give a terror look like the one in the picture below. In such a scenario, you will have slight resemblance to Osama Bin Laden.

The final output will be like this

With such a look, you can even give an autograph Cheran look by giving a sogamaana effect.
