114. Mary did you know

The best song that I have performed till date. I experienced goosebumps when I listened to this song on radio. Finally Our band "DezembaRadio"had the privilege to perform it on TV.
Do watch this video and go through the lyrics (Mark Lowry)

Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day walk on water?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would save our sons and daughters?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy has come to make you new?
This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you.
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will give sight to a blind man?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy will calm the storm with His hand?
Did you knowthat your Baby Boy has walked where angels trod?
When you kiss your little Baby
you kissed the face of God?

Ooo Ooo OooThe blind will see.The deaf will hear. The dead will live again. The lame will leap. The dumb will speakThe praises of The Lamb.
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy is Lord of all creation?
Mary, did you know
that your Baby Boy would one day rule the nations?
Did you know
that your Baby Boy is heaven's perfect Lamb?
The sleeping Child you're holding is the Great, I Am.

113.Doordarshan days

I first saw the television when I was in class One. It was the winter of 1987.I remember two men walking into our house with a big cardboard box.Just like every other six year old, I was curious to know what was inside the box. My imaginations yielded many a thoughts which included sweets, toys, kitchen utensils, wardrobe stuff. Finally when they opened the box and took the brand new TV,I remember jumping up and down, for that was the first time I was seeing a TV from a very close proximity. I turned around and looked at my sister( She is three years older than me. Yes! OLDER than me) and she gave me that know it all look. But it was too late for me to react as I had already shown my enthusiasm. My sister went near the TV with raised eyebrows (In fact she was also seeing the TV for the first time in her life).

The two guys connected the TV to some wires and did something with an aluminium rod ( My dad later told that it is called as antenna) and finally my mom was called in to switch ON the TV. In the meantime me and my sister had occupied strategic positions in front of the TV.When the grains appeared,I started clapping. My sister was keeping her silence as always. She gave a sarcastic smile; I stopped clapping. We happily watched the grains for the next two hours and went to Sleep. That was the first programme I watched on TV. By the by the name of the TV was Bush.

We watched TV that whole week and everyday we at least spent around two hours in front of the TV. The grain show continued. We started counting the grains that appeared on TV. I counted till 864 grains and gave a smile to my sister. Again she bowled me over by saying that she counted 2342 grains. I was amazed at her counting skills. Then one day my dad did something on the TV and he called that process as "Tuning the TV". He told us that we can watch another programme from now on. We were very happy. So the next whole week we had an additional programme on our daily schedule. The new programme looked like a rainbow. It was a colourful programme when compared with the grain show.

I went around and told my friends about the wonderful informative programmes that I was privileged to watch. One day When me and my sister were watching our favorite programme, something wierd happened. Some Red colour circle started forming in the TV nand finally, it ended up like the one in the picture below. Joy and happiness knew no bounds for me and my sister. She knew how to read and write Hindi. So she read the script in the circular thing and informed me that the new programme's name was "Doordarshan". Again she gave me that attitude look and immediately I surrendered. She seemed to me as the epitome of knowledge.Every day we would wait for the red circular thing to appear and we used to sing along with the background tune that accompanied the doordarshan show.

In the days that followed we were treated to load trucks of programmes and we had our list of favorite programmes too. On Mondays, we used to watch Surabhi and Oshin.

Tuesday nights were the terror filled nights as I used to get scared of the horror detective Tekhkikaat. The wet bed cannot be associated with me getting scared of frightful tuesday nights.

Wednesday nights remind me of Chitrahaar( An assortium of Hindi film songs).

Thursdays take me back to the memories of Gitanjali Iyer and Shobana Ravi ( I loved both the news readers from the bottom of my true heart).

Friday nights rested me with World this week.

Saturdays and Sundays were fun indeed with movies, street hawk, poirot, chandrakantha, shakthimaan, world of sports.

Days went by and the Television was polluted with hundreds of new channels and thousands of programmes. Now every one in our family have different programme tastes and we no longer watch one channel continuously for more than fifteen minutes. We do not have the Bush TV anymore with us. One powerful lightening blinded it. The same interest with which I used to watch all my favorite programmes on doordarshan has ceased to exist. Now I seldom watch any channel. My Bush TV is still in my precious memories. Those were the days. I call it - "My doordarshan days"

111.Sixty and still Rocking

I first saw him when I was in class 2.When my uncle brought home a VHS cassette of Rambo-First blood, I never had any clue who the actor was. When the movie was over, I was out in my backyard with my very own bow and arrow. I bent a stick and tied a twine to its ends and there i had, my very first bow. The days that followed that movie session were bad for my folks at home. Arrows (twigs) were seen flying around the house.Books were replaced by rubber bands and twigs in my school bag.I hated wearing my school uniform. But I had no other go. I used to wait for weekends so that I could go barebodied, just like my childhood hero. My mother would so often be screaming from the kitchen, because the dirty cloth that is used to wipe the wet utensils would be tied around my head.I stopped playing with Bow and arrow, when one of my attacks on my imaginary enemies ended up in the eyes of my neighbour uncle. That was the last time I played with Bow and arrow. When I was in class 4,my cousins enlightened me by letting me know that Stallone has come up with two more sequels of Rambo. I was finally lucky to see Rambo part 2 and 3 in the year 1991. After watching the movie, my interests took a wild turn and now I wanted a gun.Leo toys provided me instant relief and I had my first plastic gun with 4 plastic pellets. My sister used to be at the receiving end on most occasions. But one day when she found out that my aim was getting better and better by the day, she did the unthinkable. She melted my plastic gun with fire. Days went by and Rambo never came up with any more sequences. I finished my schooling with a heavy heart Six years of college life and three years into work life, he surprised me with Rambo 4. Stallone is sixty plus now.I saw the movie and I just loved it. He still has a lot of ammunition left with him. Rambo! you do sure rock.

107. What a baby wants?

When I was a little baby, I used to eat chalkpieces, sand, paper, eraser, pencils, soap, toothpaste, plastic knobs, buttons. I also created a great fuss in having the normal diet. The effect still shows in my gigantic frame.Infact no one knows what a baby actually wants. Historical researches say that mothers of babies have the greatest likeliness of identifying what a baby wants.Even they go wrong on most of the occassions.

I happened to see a few snaps of my god child "jolena". All the snaps were taken within a span of 30 minutes. As you go through the pictures, you would finally find what a baby actually wants.

1)Jolena is nine months now and is trying to walk. Things are never in place at my sister's place ( My sister is the mother of Jolena and hence Jolena becomes my one and only niece; if my sister doesn't plan otherwise).Everything in the hosue gets misplaced. Things that are supposed to be in the drawing room end up in the loo and things that are supposed to be in the dining room end up in the bedroom.
2) Jolena eats food only if the greenboy doll is in her vicinity. The green boy doll can be seen in the picture below. Her appetite increases to new heights if the greenboy doll is in her food tray. Lately the greenboy doll is not to be seen. She must have eaten it.
3) Even with 32 teeth , I find it pretty difficult to bite hard food. Hence I resort to eating soft food. Jolena does not have a single tooth, but still she manages to eat all sorts of food.

4) All that can be eaten is termed as "food" in her dictionary. She grips her food in her mouth before touching it with her hands

5) The hand-eye-mouth coordination is in full flow.

6) Food should be analyzed properly before eating.

7) Finally the swallowing part.

8)Caught red handed. Guilt written all over the face. Still innocence at its best ( A trait that she acquired from her god father)

9) Lunch is over! Its dessert time.

10) Finally found near the dustbin.

11) Back to square one. My sister's house is spic and span these days(Thanks to Jolena). Infact my sister even dumped her vacuum cleaner through the back door.

Last night my sister and my brother-in-law found a six legged spider under the table. They are wondering about the absence of the remaining two legs.

106. August-25-1985

I cried at last. I went to church for the Sunday service in a goofy combination. I discovered that i was wearing my vest inside out underneath my shirt. Further, I noticed that I had two different socks on my legs. One sock did not have the spirit to stand up tall as it lost its elasticity. To add salt to the injury, i found that my pant zip got stuck and would not close. So I pulled out my shirt and covered the folly. I looked like a rag picker in shoes.A christening ceremony was going on in the church. What caught my attention was the name given to the little baby girl. When the priest named her “Renu Sebastian", chiming bells started ringing in my ears. The name RENU echoed in my ears. RENU... RENu... REnu... Renu. ..renu...

Memories of my first love crossed my eyes. I could hear her sweet voice .My eardrums reverberated with her name settling down in sweet harmony. My nostrils could sense the rose petals that adorned her hair.I came home with a heavy heart. Yes I was in tears. My parents saw their only son and knew that he was feeling very low. They did not bother to disturb me.
I went to my room and soaked my pillow with tears. I cried non stop for 28 seconds. Then I got up from my bed and opened the cupboard and took my secret memory box.

I stored all my favorite things in that secret memory box. Still with tears in my eyes, I took a piece of paper and looked at it. A drop of tear fell on the paper.

Yes, it was my first ever love letter. I wrote that love letter for Renu. I wrote the letter on 25-08-1985. I was in kindergarten then. I still have tears in my eyes.

105. Koperunchelvi

It has been three years since I wrote a Love-letter. The last time I wrote a love-letter, I ended up giving the letter to the girl's mother. The story did not end there. The girl's mother's hubby (daddy of the girl) saw the whole incident with his red eyes. I am not going to explain about the repercussions that happened to me that fateful day.

My tryst with love-letters has a long history. I have scripted almost 75 love-letters till date. Around 25 of these were written to help my friends to find their love. The funny weird reality is that all these 25 love-letters have been extremely successful for my friends. But the rest 50 that I scripted for my own love life, all ended in utter disaster.

I remember the days I spent in Pondicherry.I rented a house when I did my engineering in Pondicherry. I fell in love with a girl named Koperunchelvi. She stayed one floor below me. Every morning before going to college, I would catch a glimpse of her. In fact I fell in love with her for her name and not for her beauty. We were a great pair indeed. She was 5 feet 10 inches tall, and she weighed around 80 kilograms. I had nothing to worry about, cos she was all a man like me (I looked like a boy though) could ever have. One day her house was filled with people. Little children were running around, music in the air and old men talking about world peace.I was wearing a towel around my waist after my bath and I happened to see loads of people entering her house. As I was unaware of the reason behind the whole festive spirit in her house, I called one little boy and asked him what was going around. He slapped me and ran away. I became furious and started chasing him. Eventually I ended up inside her house.

There she was sitting right in front of me. She was really beautiful. She looked at me and gave a sheepish smile. Her eyelashes were curvilinear and the way they stuttered made my heart go wild.A few ladies were sitting around her and singing songs.Having an interest towards music I tried to join the singing sessions. The sole reason for me attempting to sing was to get the attention of koperunchelvi.I did not know the words. But still I managed to do a picture perfect lip synchronisation for the song. I knew that she liked my Voice. She saw me through the corner of her eyes. I saw a tear drop welling up in her eyes.I very well knew that she was more happier than me. One of the old ladies went near with a small vessel and took some sandal paste out from the bowl and applied it on her cheeks. Some other ladies followed suit. I wanted to apply some paste too. But being a gentleman with a noble heart, I refrained from doing so.
In the mean time, the little boy who slapped me, came near me and said,"sorry uncle". I knew he told that out of fear. I gently patted him on his back and asked him, the reason behind this whole fun and frolic. He told that he is soon going to have a small baby sister. Then he ran towards Koperunchelvi and hugged her, and turned towards me and shouted at the top of his voice, " Mummy!, That uncle looks like the same skeleton that we have in our biology lab". Now every one were looking at me and I discovered that I was standing amidst them only with my towel around my waist.

Koperunchelvi delivered a baby girl, the very next month.
